Choose and install the Mac build
- Open the client download page.
- Choose Apple silicon for M1, M2, M3, M4 or newer Macs. Choose Intel only for an Intel-based Mac.
- Open the ZIP and move
Codex Skin Client.appinto Applications. - Before public launch, use the SHA-256 value on the download page to verify this unsigned local release. Keep Gatekeeper enabled.
- For this unsigned local build, Control-click the app in Applications, choose Open, then confirm Open once. Do not disable Gatekeeper.
No account is required to download. The Mac packages are public and have no download limit. Sign in after the app opens.
Sign in and sync your library
- Open Codex Skin Client.
- Use the same email and password as the website, or create an account.
- Complete email verification if requested, then sign in.
- Select Sync library after a new website purchase.
The refresh session is encrypted with macOS Keychain-backed storage. The client never saves your password in a local file.
Apply a skin from the website
- Save or send any unfinished input in Codex.
- Open an unlocked skin page and select Apply to Codex.
- The
codexskin://link opens the Mac client at that exact skin. - If the skin is not cached, the client downloads it through your account and checks its size and SHA-256.
- Confirm once. The client verifies the official OpenAI-signed Codex app, restarts it, and applies the skin.
Free built-in skin: Future Planet: Twin-Sun Sand City is already inside the app and uses the same apply flow.
The temporary control connection listens only on 127.0.0.1. The client does not modify the Codex app bundle, prompts, projects, account data or model settings.
Restore and troubleshoot
Restore the official appearance
- Open the client and select Restore official appearance.
- The client removes the visual layer, closes the verified skin session, and reopens Codex normally.
A purchased skin is missing
Confirm the website and client use the same account, then select Sync library. A completed purchase is never charged again.
Codex is not detected
Move the official Codex app into Applications, open it once, and try again. The client accepts only the OpenAI bundle identifier, Developer ID team and macOS security assessment.
The website link does not open the client
Open Codex Skin Client once from Applications so macOS registers the codexskin:// link, then return to the skin page.
